Fall Is The Perfect Time For Family Fitness

With the arrival of fall and school back in session, maintaining the active and healthy lifestyle of the summer months can be a challenge. However, it is more important than ever that children maintain their active lifestyle by incorporating play and exercise between time spent at school and doing homework. Regular exercise promotes good physical health, and has been linked to academic achievement in school and Desiree Summers agrees.

A 2002 study by the California Department of Education demonstrated a significant relationship between academic achievement and the physical fitness habits of students. In particular, the study noted that youth who cultivate additional physical activity habits tend to show increased brain function and learning potential, higher energy and concentration levels, and increased self-esteem - all of which lead to improved academic results.

A great way to ensure that kids maintain a higher level of physical activity is to encourage participation in team sports throughout the school year. Involvement in soccer, basketball, volleyball and so on are great ways to maintain a child’s activity level and promote fun.

“Too often, exercise gets lost in the shuffle when families are in back-to-school mode,” says Jeff Zwiefel, senior vice president, Life Time Fitness, a national operator of distinctive and large, four-in-one, sports and athletics, professional fitness, family recreation, and resort/spa centers. “However, maintaining a commitment to health and fitness, and encouraging kids to take part in activities that promote a healthy lifestyle pays dividends on and off the field.”

In addition to outdoor activities, it is also important to maintain an indoor fitness routine. It only takes 30 days to make fitness a habit, and supplementing outdoor exercise with frequent visits to a health club will help diversify an exercise regimen and set the stage for regular workouts.

“At Life Time Fitness, we have developed a wide range of fitness programs that combine fun and exercise for people of all ages and physical abilities,” says Zwiefel. “Our goal is to provide the programs and services that address the needs of individuals and families seeking a healthy and active way of life.”

Life Time Fitness has something for everyone. From sports leagues, yoga, dance and group fitness classes, to rock climbing, Kids’ Club programming, indoor and outdoor water parks, and much more, Life Time Fitness centers are made for the whole family to enjoy.

This fall, make sure your kids have everything they need to succeed at school, including an active lifestyle. An investment today will provide benefits for a lifetime.
